Honestly, Makhachev’s "wife’s permission" jokes always come off as either trying a bit too hard or just plain cringe. If you’ve ever trained at a gym where guys actually respect the sport, you know how stupid it sounds to joke about needing permission from someone outside the gym to step in the ring. It’s one thing to be humble about your personal life, but that kind of humor just makes it look like he’s compensating for something.
That said, maybe it’s just a cultural thing or a way to keep things light in interviews. I’ve seen fighters crack jokes like that in MMA, and while it might not age well, it’s not exactly a character flaw—more like a personality tic. But if he’s serious about it? Yikes. Stay in your lane, champ.
