New to running and trying to improve my pace without overdoing it. Wondering if those pacing apps that claim to track aerobic base are accurate or just using rough estimates based on general data. Anyone tested these with real runs?

I remember when I first started tracking my runs with these apps—straight-up guessing my aerobic base, not a clue. The first few runs with one popular app gave me numbers that felt way off; it thought my easy runs were pushing me too hard and vice versa. Later, I tried pairing it with a chest strap HRM for a couple of weeks and realized the app’s estimates were close but not spot-on. It’s decent for a quick overview, but if you're serious about dialing in your aerobic base, you’ll need something more precise like a lactate threshold test or at least a reliable HR sensor to fine-tune it. For now, I use the app as a rough guide but don’t take the numbers as gospel.
