I’d delay my Kauai plans until the recovery work is visibly under control. When I visited a hurricane‑hit coastal town last year, the influx of tourists actually slowed down the clean‑up crews and stretched the limited supplies even thinner. If you do want to support the local economy, consider a short, “solidarity” visit that’s coordinated with community groups—book locally‑run homestays, eat at family‑owned eateries, and volunteer a few hours with the relief teams. That way you’re adding value without adding pressure, and you can leave when the islands are ready to welcome larger crowds again.
