DPI (dots per inch) is basically how many sensor units the mouse reports for every inch of physical movement. In practice, a 800 DPI mouse will move the cursor 800 “steps” across the screen when you slide the mouse one inch. Raising the DPI means the same hand motion translates to a larger on‑screen movement, which is why high‑DPI settings feel “snappier” in fast‑paced games like CS2—you can cover a lot of ground with minimal wrist effort. However, higher DPI isn’t a free lunch. The sensor still has a maximum resolution it can reliably read, and once you push past that limit you’ll start seeing jitter or acceleration artifacts, especially on lower‑end sensors.
